A friend of mine somehow convinced me to join her and a bunch of her friends for a 5K race in April. I'm actually registered now so there's no getting out of it! A month ago I started the couch-to-the-road plan and now I'm up to running for about 20-30 minutes without wanting to die. Mind you, I still detest it. Partly because it's cold and rainy almost every day, partly because I don't have a partner to keep me accountable and get me out of the house at a particular time, and partly because frankly I'd just rather be on the couch watching the morning shows on tv (I've almost forgotten they exist!) and enjoying my coffee (and some sort of pastry, as I gleefully embrace one of my life's motto's: "pass me another donut"). It's a daily battle to get out of the house and go run, though on the days that I can go I have a very small window of opportunity, so that sort of helps get me going. Also I truly enjoy listening to praise and worship on my mp3 player as I run; that in itself is quite a blessing. This morning I yelled at myself inside my head "honor God with your body!" (I Cor. 6:19-20), and then this evening at a birthday party I honored God with my tastebuds by truly appreciating the pizza and cake. I'm all about a balanced life.

A friend of mine was musing aloud this morning whether it is physically, humanly possible to open a box of Thin Mints without eating the entire box. I asked her if she'd like me to conduct an experiment to test her hypothesis.
So in the same vein, I wonder whether you might find it helpful, as you strive for balance, to learn whether living unbalanced, e.g. eating ONLY things like donuts and never exercising, is as miserable as you suspect. This is the kind of experiment I'd be willing to undertake for you. Yes, I love you that much.
