The Birthday Bash

Phew! So glad it's over! I feel I still haven't caught up after such a crazy weekend getting ready for the birthday party and all, even though it wasn't that big of a deal. We had all our friends over, there was pizza, there were cupcakes, and of course the piñata. This year the girls decided on a Dora theme (I just did one big party for both of them, Isabella will be 3 on Sept22). So I made a Dora head piñata, which turned out more like a Franken-Dora since the brown paper made a crease down the middle of the face. And the goodie bags were made to look like Dora's backpack. Rebekah is a whoppin' FIVE now, and very proud of it! She started a new year of Pre-K and became tearful when she learned she can only go three days a week and not every day.I would write more but I'm on my second attempt at making spaghetti sauce from fresh tomatoes so I'd best go taste it again. We have tomatoes coming out our EARS and I'm trying not to let them go to waste this year. I've given some away, but around here giving produce away is almost as hard as pulling teeth - I think just about everybody has their own garden and plenty of veggies coming out their own ears.

Also I have bread pudding in the oven - using the leftover cupcakes (I took off the icing, in case you were wondering) from the birthday party. It's a cold and rainy day, so I thought I'd best use the oven!

Love the sound of a fruitful garden. My garden's fruitful too, except instead of tomatoes, my tomato plant is producing caterpillars. Mmm, yummy. Wonder what kind of spaghetti sauce I could make from that??

ruth, your girls are beautiful!!!

rebekah, hold that thought! i'm working on a recipe for ya! :) i mean, come on, i have a house full of boys, so if anyone can come up with a good sauce made from bugs, it should be, me right?

how fun! happy birthday! :)

and at least you have *girls* who are afraid of bugs. My *boys* are afraid! Gideon will come running in, crying about a spider or something... i tell him to wait til Daddy gets home 'cause i don't do the killing thing. --at least he's over his fear of flies...

For the record, when my almost 3-year-old girl sees a bug, she dashes to the bathroom to grab toilet paper, squishes the bug, and flushes it. I'm so proud!

Ruth, I do believe you are starting to sound like Martha Stewart ;)

As for the bugs, I wish mine would squish them. Both of my kids have to bring them in the house to show them to me...yuck!!
