Coupon Queen

So a friend's blog was talking about paying too much for stuff, and it got me to thinking about living cheaply. Anybody ever watch that segment on some show about that one family? (Just to be specific.) The cheapest family in America! And YOU can do it too! I just started a year ago, you know, the whole coupon+sale and rebate thing in the grocery stores, and bargain hunting, etc. Unfortunately, our area does not do double coupons! Phoey on them. But for example, I'll have a coupon for something, and then Walgreen's will have a rebate on it, so I actually get money back from buying this product! Recently Kellogg's put out a ton of coupons and a $10 rebate...well, I combined that with some cereal sales and will actually end up paying absolutely nothing for like 10 boxes of cereal - I mean it, $0 for all of that! Now aint life grand in the good ol' USA? So I say, live debt free! Be cheap! Find things for free! (Check out joining the yahoo group freecycle in your area or look up Craigslist in your area.) Also if you need some cash, look around your house and find stuff you're not using. You probably dont' have time for an all-out garage sale. But I'll bet you could sell stuff individually on Craigslist....so easy! So convenient! (These people should pay me!) The people come right to your front door, take your item, give you cash, and bingo! You can now order a pizza for dinner!

All I know I've learned from my dear friend Stephanie, who is the Ultimate Coupon Queen. Nobody can beat her. She does live in the south, however, and has a definite advantage of double and triple coupon days, combined with general cheaper living in the south.

I've been doing this out of necessity. And soon will face even greater necessity as we're going to be moving to our own place (an apartment). So the cheaper we can eat, the better!

Which brings me to the thought of apartment hunting. Man, what a pain! It was fun, but now it's a bit of a drag. Oh well. I still get excited to think of it. I may be a good 10 years behind my peers, but we are so blessed and God has always provided. Tho I do confess, having said that, the longing and aching for a nice-enough house with our own yard, a place where I can paint the walls whatever color, etc, etc, blah blah whine whine whine. Shame on me for losing sight of heaven and the shortness of life and non-importance of owning a home on earth.

So even if you don't need to, clip coupons and shop sales! You'll be a better steward of the money God has given you. And if you save money by doing that, then how about giving that extra away to somebody who really doesn't know where their next meal is going to come from?

Everynow and then I try coupon cutting, but eventually, it just gets to be too much to keep up with. I need to do it to save some money, but, it sure is a pain. :)

oooh! i'm terrible w/cupons, but my brother, Erik was just telling me about this great website that he does... the grocery game: http://www.thegrocerygame.com/
They email him every month (or week?) & let him know all the cupons that are out, etc, & how to get the most bang for your buck. He said it's saved him hundreds of dollars. check it out! you can read more about it on the "What is the Grocery Game" link. you hafta pay a little to do it, but Erik says it's way worth it. He also says that if you sign up for it, list him as a refferal w/this address: groceries@teuton.org so he can get a free month. :)

When I see all those coupons and rebates, all I think is, it must actually only cost about three cents to make a box of Cheerios. Goes to show all our food probably really IS cardboard...
