Chocolate Chip Cookie Maker Wannabe

Sheesh! What's wrong with me? I can't make a chocolate chip cookie to save my life! I swear I follow the recipe, I really do! I read up on what happens when you have too much of something in it...but still, they just don't like me and my oven. I feel very sheeeeepish. Oh well, at least practicing is fun. And with my failed batch from today I made a pudding pie crust. With another failed batch a few months ago I quickly put the rest of the batter into a pan and pretended it was chocolate chip biscotti. Someone even asked me for the recipe! Hilarious! It's a very cold and very rainy day here, but I can boast the best aroma in my little cozy home! Only thing, what do I have with my lonely glass of milk?
P.S. You guys need to update your blogs. What is a person to do when they're supposed to be working on other things, if friends don't update their blogs?

LOL, Come over sometime Ruth, I have a great recipe for chocolate chip cookies (I just have to find it again, it's been awhile). :)

Oh, and my blogs up to date..for the most part anyway. You must be talking to Heather ;)

hey! i never made a "successful" batch of choc. chip cookies until i tried butter flavored Crisco...use the sticks, though, not the big tub. WAY more convenient. for some reason, when i used butter or margerine the cookies always flopped...but since i tried the crisco, they are rich and almost perfect. i sound like a commercial. :) they are especially good if you take them out of the oven just underbaked and slap the pan on the countertop...GOOEY yummy soft cookies...mmmm....

Yes! I happen to have butter flavored Crisco in the cupboard! I will try again and doggone it, I will CONQUER (either that, or I'll go buy a mix...)!!! I don't think it's the baking soda, Kari! But who knows. I can tell when it has too much flour (so I quickly add more sugar) or when it has too much sugar...sigh...but still...cookies and I aren't agreeing lately. I USED to be able to make them just fine! My last batch was too brown on the outside and raw in the middle! ARGH!

oooh! tortillas from scratch sounds fun1 you'll have to teach us, too.

y'know... come to think of it, i think my cookies were always good until i changed recipes & stopped using crisco... i'll have to try that... so what... do you use the same amt. crisco as you do butter?

Oh Ruth, from scratch tortillas sound wonderful!! We definatlly should have a "chocolate chip cookie making" party at the girls night, that would be too much fun. We'll have to make sure we have extra flour for flour throwing too :)

Kari, I don't know how much crisco I use, but I do remember that I used it :)

Maybe?:
Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
1 cup Crisco® Butter Shortening
OR 1 stick Crisco® Butter Shortening Sticks
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick rolled oats, uncooked
1 (12 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans, walnut or peanuts

HEAT oven to 375°F. Spray baking sheets with no-stick spray.
COMBINE shortening, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla in large bowl of electric mixer. Beat at high speed until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed. Mix until well blended. Stir in oats. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2-inches apart onto prepared sheets.
BAKE for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheets. Transfer to cooling racks to cool completely.

Except I would half the recipe and take out the oats and nuts...in which case, only 1/2 c of Crisco...

ok, flour throwing is fun idea!
i use the same amount of butter crisco as it calls for butter...
i use the recipe on the back of nestle toll house chocolate chips bag...sometimes i use the milk choc chips, sometimes the semi-sweet.
it's always worked out for me...
OH, but i have always had rotten luck when using cooking spray with chocolate chip cookies! ESPECIALLY if you are using the crisco, i wouldn't use the spray!!!! it makes them a SOGGY MESS!

Throwing flour?! How wasteful! :) Yeah, I wouldnt' use spray, esp when most choc chip cookie recipes are on ungreased baking sheets....
