I've had some boxes of lights sitting on my living room floor for a couple weeks now. I suppose I thought if SOMEbody tripped over them enough he (I mean, "they") would put them up for me! Well, they never quite made it outside, so yesterday beneath a misty rain I mustered up some testosterone and did it myself! I am woman, hear me roar! Actually, it wasn't a real outside light decorating job. I couldn't figure out a way to plug the things in, since there aren't any outdoor plugs. So I just twisted some red rope lights around the fenceposts and ran the cord under our front door. So I suppose I didnt' need the testosterone. But I just love looking out our window and smiling to myself at our reindeer runway....or it could be candy-caned fence posts, either way! Hurrah for Christmas! I love it.
And now I must really get started on the huge task of baking a few different kinds of cookies to send to friends. I suppose I didn't get on the ball to do a Christmas card. Although if I were really feeling organized I could still do an email newsletter. Less paper, cheaper. I just finished sewing some mini stockings to send to just a select few friends' kids. I'm not a good sewer, but this machine I was borrowing can do all kinds of fun stuff like stitch a little bitty snowflake pattern and everything! How could I resist?
Now I need a snack to replenish all the energy I've spent. Even if I hadn't spent any energy, mind you, I would still need a snack. And I'm wishing all my cookies were baked (yes, I got butter flavored Crisco and I will use it!) so I could snack on those. A few years back my sister grabbed a Pillsbury cookie recipe booklet off the checkout stand and she found an amazing recipe for the absolute best cookie ever! It's the (deep breath) Frosted Maple Pecan White Chocolate Chip Cookie. And it's incredible! What's your favorite kind of cookie? (Can you even narrow it down?!)

I have two favorite cookies--from my childhood I love Peanut butter blossoms. Make peanutbutter cookies, roll them in balls, dip them in egg whites. Sprinkle the balls with white sugar. bake them for half of the time...5 minutes? Then pull out the tray and press a chocolate cany int he center. We like to use dove chocolates because they are yummy and the dove on the block of candy reminds us of Jesus. Finish baking them and the chocolate gets warm and soft while the sugar/egg white coating gets crisp like candy. Oh they are heavenly.
My other favorites come from Bible School days. Chocolate snow balls. It's a no bake ball of butter, oatmeal, a little cold coffee, sugar, you know all the stuff that will make you fat. Mix it all up, make balls and roll them in pearl sugar. I have to buy the pearl sugar at import stores. Charity drove me all the way to Beaverton once so I could get some. : ) Max was a wee baby in a car seat. Anywho, those two cookies make me think Christmas and make me so happy. They bring out the worst in my inability to eat a reasonable amount of sweets at one sitting. : )
Ohhh those sound awful nice! You just might have to make one of them for me to try! Heeheee!
The best cookies I have found are my mom's chocolate unbaked cookies. Cocoa powder, oatmeal, peanut butter...yum!
oooooooh! yeah! i'm with Gwen...i LOVE no-bake cookies! YUM! i haven't made them in awhile, but Walmart makes some in their bakery that are delicious! very dangerous. :)
i think i'll have to agree with Gwen as well. DELISH!!
but for the holidays, i like the sugar cookies. --and my mom's are the BEST b/c she put almond flavoring in the cookies & the icing. mmmmmmm!
what are russian tea cakes anyway?
almond flavoring...hmmm...i should try that. i wonder if i could just mix it with the store bought dough and get the same effect... ;)
Russian teacakes are my top, top favorite--they're the same as Mexican wedding cakes, Kari--those wonderful little doughballs with nuts, rolled in powdered sugar. Mmmm. I think it's baking time again here too, all of a sudden!
